Research Interest: Generative AI
As a tech enthusiast, I couldn’t resist diving into the world of Generative AI (GenAI).
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been around since the 1950s, and GenAI is just one branch of it. But in the 2020s, advancements in Large Language Models (LLMs) and Generative Pre-trained Transformers (GPT) unlocked the potential for AI tools to generate text, images, and even videos on demand.

Well, ain’t that the trillion dollar question ? What is the point of GenAi ? What can it do ?
Let’s start with the promise: Improve tasks efficiency and productivity by providing quick and accurate answers to any requests. This is the type of messages presented by various organizations providing GenAI capabilities through their products.
Now, Is it living up to that promise ? At the time I am writing this line (2024).... not entirely…
Don’t get me wrong, the current platforms are delivering great solutions and if the technology keeps on progressing at the current rate, the promise will be delivered within the next 10 years.
However, challenges remain. Accuracy, trust, and social acceptance are still evolving hurdles. And let’s not ignore the workforce anxiety about AI replacing jobs. While industry leaders assure us that AI will “work alongside us,” many are looking to governments for clear regulations, so we can avoid a Terminator situation (I may be exaggerating a bit…maybe…)
All of those elements make Generative AI an exciting field for exploration.
I am excited about working on various projects related to Improving User Experience with AI platforms, Understanding Social Acceptance of AI technologies and Developing Real-World Applications for AI tools.

Generative AI Grading in a Database Design Course: Initial Findings

Automated grading using Generative AI tools is an ongoing research topic as such platforms brings opportunity to reduce instructor’s workload. Some questions remain about how effective those tools are and if they are truly able to replicate an instructor grading and feedback. As part of a wider research project, we are analyzing the grading output of ChatGPT4 for a database design assignment. Our initial observations show the limitations of the platform even when provided with references such as assignment solution, grading rubric and grading examples.
